: If you can believe it, these two bastions of journalistic integrity have misreported (or
: flat out lied, depending on how you look at it) about "Jersey Girl" and re-shoots that
: just don't exist.

: Here's their story. My comments below...
: -----------------------
: Jennifer Lopez and Ben AffleckTough Luck
: J. Lo and Ben's latest vehicle may be a stinker. Plus, Kirsten Dunst becomes
: political

: by BeatBoxBetty

: The scoop on the latest, name-changing film from Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck is
: that in addition to having an identity crisis, it's just plain bad. Tough Love has had
: its name changed from Gigli, had its release date pushed back four or five times
: and had a $5 million rewrite after test audiences were left unimpressed. In fact, the
: original ending had Ben's character dying, but since audiences hated that, the
: studio had to re-shoot a new ending.

: A quick review of the plot and it's easy to see why folks have freezer burn over this
: puppy. In a nutshell, Ben plays a lowlife thug named Gigli who kidnaps the mentally
: retarded brother of a federal prosecutor to save his mobster boss from
: incarceration. Staked-out in his apartment with his kidnapee, Gigli's soon joined by
: Ricki (Lopez), a gorgeous lesbian gangster who's sent in to assist. But as time goes
: by (and your life force drained from you) -- his feelings for Ricki grow, (and she of
: course, falls for him) and then they become concerned for their prisoner... blah,
: blah, blah.

: Some say the fact that J.Lo and Ben met on set may be the only positive thing to
: come out of filming, while others claim that too is a sham. I'm betting both go
: straight to video. But wait, there's more!  Reports are also coming in that Ben and
: Jen's romantic chemistry is zero onscreen. Nada. Zippity-doo-dud. According to the
: National Enquirer, producers of their other new flick Jersey Girl are desperately
: rewriting love scenes because test audiences don't get why their characters are
: even attracted to each other!  Price tag for re-shoots? A hefty $3 million. The cost of
: having Ben and Jen turn up the chemistry meter? Priceless.
: -----------------

: Yeah, use the Enquirer as a source. That's always smart.

: I know it's only a gossip piece, but gossip or not, I thought I'd state for the record,
: that we have not re-shot, nor do we have plans to re-shoot, scenes for "Jersey Girl."
: Ben and Jen's chemistry in the flick is the exact opposite of zero. I'm not
: desperately (or even casually) rewriting dick. Both test audiences seemed to get
: why the two characters were together quite well. And there's no $3 million being
: spent. There - you now have it from a credible source.

: I'd heard they were playing that Enquirer game on Stern the other day and this
: "Jersey Girl" $3 million re-shoot crap came up as a true story. I assumed (wrongly, I
: guess) that anyone who really gave a shit knew that it was "Gigli" that had done re-
: shoots, not "Jersey Girl."

: Now I'm seeing this isn't the case.

: In her (or his) haste to attack and damn Ben and Jen's relationship in any way
: possible (because it catches the interest of a news-reading public whose attention
: would be better spent on the war abroad), MSN's unfortunately named BeatBox
: Betty has dragged our flick into a spot of mud, alleging problems where there are
: none. I know she (or he) is only a gossip hound, but I'd ask that, in the future, she
: (or he) at least try to contact someone involved with a production she (or he) plans
: to besmirch, rather than lazily take her cues from the likes of a tabloid.

: While I'm at it, though, I'd also like to point out that all this "Gigli" stuff is crap too.
: I've seen the flick with a test screening audience, and I haven't heard laughter like
: that in a movie theater since "American Pie" (or "Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back").
: And, mind you, the laughter was WITH, not AT, the movie.

: Much as I hate to disappoint BeatBox, both movies seem like they're going to do
: just fine - quite like Ben and Jen's relationship.

: Regardless, next time you're writing a story, even if it is for a gossip sheet, how
: about simply picking up a phone and doing a little research? Just because you've
: been reduced to the lowest rung on the ladder of journalism (manufacturing news
: where there really isn't any), it doesn't mean you have to conduct yourself like an
: asshole, know-nothing.

Now obviously rumors are not always truth, yet at the same time, when the rumors on the set of Gigli first started circling of a possible love connection between the two stars, it was denied as rumors. Now they are engaged. Therefore, I think sometimes all rumors begin with some truth. Not to intentionally diss Ben and Jenn ( I realize this is a pro-adultary site), but don't you think that the anger from some critics regarding the Bennifer's relationship comes from their actions, and not that Jenn is a Mega Star who the public and media created only to ultimately destroy?

Ben and Jenn got engaged while she was still married to another man (even if they didn't supposedly hook up till the Jersey Girl filming), some still consider that adultery. And not that that in itself deserves any criticizing (people should live their lives how they wish), but the way in which Jennifer portrays herself as an "all around good Catholic girl" becomes a mockery of the Christian religion. Again, back to engaged and married to two different men at the same time. Coming from any other star, i.e. Pam Anderson , no one would care. But when it comes from a star who claims to be a devout Catholic, many people in the public and media find this offensive to the Catholic Church. I'm not Catholic, but if I were, I'd be embarrassed to have Jennifer Lopez represent my religion. I mean, Catholics have enough problems dealing with their child molesting priests, now they have a twice divorced, half naked posing J-Lo as their spokesperson?

Ben and Jenn get massive criticism because of the choices they make in representing themselves. For example promoting Maid in Manhattan and her album by going on a Diane Sawyer interview to announce the engagment. If they wanted their "privacy" seeing as Ben said in Vanity Fair that he just doesn't understand why all the attention, maybe they should have considered to quietly release a statement through their publicist, or better yet wait for her divorce to come through. Now granted that is not enough of a reason to bash someone, but added with all their other publicity stunts such as the song Dear Ben (great that they are in love, but did they need a public song considering they want "privacy"), the dual interviews (they are almost conjoined at the hip), J-Lo's just release 3rd single which she says is, that's right you guessed it, about Ben (yet not the Dear Ben song), the video for "Jenny from the Block" (I mean he kisses her ass, did they really think that would not bring any criticism or speculations?) etc, . . , the list just keeps on going.

If they really wanted privacy and to not be judged by their actions, maybe they should have considered being a bit more descreet. Therefore, you can't really blame the Tabloids for writing untruthful gossip about them when they are constantly publicly pushing out their private business. I mean, the entire country even knows how he proposed (courtesy of J-Lo), we don't get that from other celebs. We don't know how Brad Pitt proposed. If we do get private info from other celebs, it's all in moderation, but the Bennifer's don't seem to understand that word. Therefore I don't think it's fair to blame BeatBox Betty for lying about a review, when in fact this reviewer is probably actually making The Bennifer's happy by giving their film free promotion and creating a buzz before the film has even been released. Now everyone will want to see if this film really sucks or not. (Maybe this is yet another ploy by the Bennifer's to promote their personal life that they want to be kept private?)

Oh, and Ben playing the race card in Vanity Fair is yet another reason many people are tired of their antics. I don't see any bashing remarks toward En Norton and Salma, Antonio and Melanie (who actually had an affair together behind their spouses but were smart enough not to exploit themselves in public too soon).

Plus, the media is quickly tiring of J-Lo because everything she says contradicts itself. Ben claims her to be chaste (yet open a magazine and she's naked in her promo ads for Glow). He also claims she's the nicest person, never says anything bad about anyone (with the exception of her MovieLine interview in '98 where she bashed Salma for getting all J-Lo's hand-me-down roles, Gwenyth for only being known for dating Pitt, Cameron Diaz for being a model who got lucky. Notice since then Salma was nominated for an oscar, Gwennie one an Oscar, and Cameron is one of the top payed female actresses out there, while J-Lo is still just "Jenny from the Block".)

I used to be a huge Kevin Smith fan, but to see you constantly praising the idiocy that is The Bennifer's leads me to to simply say Tarantino is an awesome director.

I hope The Bennifer's have a wonderful "E!'s Behind the Marriage" life together.
