I have t disagree about the ending to Clerks. While I understand what Kevin Smith was trying to do with it, I have to agree with the opinion Pierson expresses in Spike, Mike, Slackers and Dykes- it doesn't fit the tone of the movie at all. This isn't a comedy that can be turned at the last minute into something shocking for one reason: all the parts where the audience gets a shock are funny throughout the movie. 37 dicks, jerk-off guy in the bathroom, etc. There isn't any other shock value except as comedy, and the ending can't just introduce something new like a murder into an otherwise light comedy. And besides that, when I watch a movie and start to care about characters, a real easy way to aleniate me is to kill them off for no good reason. or even fora good reason. Basically, I think the pwople I like should stay alive through the whole movie.
