Kevin,
I've been intersted in film alll my life, im majoring at it in Colubmia University, before my freshmen year i wondered about becoming a director, there is alot of great directors out there who never make it and give there all and sacrifice so many things. I've always admired your films and your effort to make them. Take for example you, your brief stint at the New School for Social Research's creative writing program, (the whole water balloon thing) and your short time at the Vancouver Film School, did you think that when you made "Clerks" it would get bought by Mirimax or some studio? Even without some sort of college degree or credibility to film? Did you think sacrificing everything for "Clerks" was worth it? (Your comic book collection and maxing out the credit cards). Did you think it would pay off? If not where do you think you would end up or be right now if the movie was unsuccessful? You are an amazing filmmaker and really smart person no doubt about it. "Clerks" is considered to be your best movie to date by many critics. What do you think? I saw "Clerks" again a couple of nights ago and I turned to my friend in the end of the movie and said, "what do you think ?". He said that if you hadn't made the film in black and white it wouldnt have had the same effect and wouldnt have got the critical acclaim it got. I'd like to think that wouldnt matter becuause it's the unexpected quality of the script and unusual combination of an unlikely setting that made the film successful. What do you think?, and lastly as i come to conclusion do you think it was all worth it ? Your sacrifices and your hard work and effort, all the things you had to give up and risk of never making it in this business? (even if people might think your not commercially and artisticly successful, i do you have come along way.)
Best Regards to You and Your Family,
