If you are the last "man" in your immediate family, (ie- your dad is not living, or if you have brothers, they are not living) then you can't go. I am not aware if marriage is am exemption. And I also believe that college was at one time.

Althought, after the Viernam was, the IRR was established. The Initial Ready Rerserve (IRR) was created so as the draft would not have to ever be a possiblity, which I personally think never will be again. There are so many thousands of people in the IRR currently, that unless all hell broke loose, and there was like a WW3, then it wouldn't even get close to needing a draft.

People are usually placed in the IRR after they serve their active duty tours/terms. Most around the time of 2-4 years. I am in the Reserves... and there are currently thousands of people in the Amry reserves alone that are in the IRR.

So, with all of that, there should not ever really be a draft again. Thanks to the IRR. BTW, only people that have served in the military are in the IRR. There are even some who are in the IRR that are being "punished." It is used as a sort of probation for people who go AWOL, or get caught with some type of drug (usually only people caught with marijuana are given the "probation.")

They serve time in a Military Jail of some sort, then agree to be in the IRR for x amount of years.

Hope this helped somewhat.

p.s. No matter what, Twizzlers will always fucking rock. :)
