Moving to a big city might set you up with some better connections. Failing that, take a look around and see what your environment has to offer in terms of resources. You want to be creative, use that creativity to make something out of nothing. Watch more low budget stuff (I just recently saw Bad Taste and was floored at how much I laughed).

Not a professional, but I've discovered that life gets a bit easier in general when you follow guidelines like these.
