Reason One:
Duo's play off really well and are especially good with that snappy dialogue that Kev used the first VA films.
Reason Two:
When you have a main character, there are few better ways to reveal that person's hopes, flaws, and thoughts than to have a confidant by him or her.
Reason Three:
It shows great contrast. What better way to emphasize Jay's loud mouth than to put him next to a silent partner?
Lots of other reasons too, but those are my three.
