He purposefully ODed on heroin. According to the coroner, it took less than fifteen minutes for it to completely kill his nervous system, in turn killing him. He had a lot of serious problems, and had recently been dumped by a girlfriend, though his suicide note never even mentioned her. Suicide, when the victim's intention really is to end his/her own life, is always - and I do mean always - about more than just being dumped. Your friend must have had a lot of serious problems before ever being dumped. The break-up with his girlfriend was just the triggering event to his suicide. It was the catalyst, and nothing more than that. It didn't cause him to commit suicide, so do yourself and others a favor and don't blame his death on his ex-girlfriend. Your friend would have killed himself - or at least tried to - eventually anyway. Grieve his loss, say goodbye to him at his funeral, and then carry on his memory. The shock of what he did may never truly wear off, but don't let it envelope you like it enveloped many of my deceased friend's family and friends. Just learn from the experience, as your friend's death is a lesson to those he knew in life. Get from it what you will and try to move on.
