: Ok I got two questions for Kev. Ok first. Why did you write that part for rock to say that Jay beats it and thinks about men. I mean that was like totally ruinging Jay. Jay is awesome and thats totally not cool and didnt even seem like something he would do. Also it didn't even sound like Jay or even live up to his reputation that he was some closet case or something. Then again it was written before Jay and Silent Bob were even consider as a role. Since they really didn't do much but puzzle people in Clerks or whatever. Second why did you put God as a woman? I know its been asked but just listen to the rest of my reasoning. Ok all throughout the movie rock was saying about how christ was black and what not and everyone always refered to God as a man. Ok I know you used some biblical refrence, but it says that God created man as a image of himself so how could he be a woman. In your commentary you said you scripted it as a woman so I'm not asking the why alanis thing. I dunno, it just didn't seem like it worked. Then at the ending when the heaven sents go to walk in the door what was with that comment rock made about well god isnt real a she, God isn't really anything. What was that supposed to mean? Otherwise the movie ruled and I think it's my favorite, though I havnt seen chasing amy, but those two things kinda kept my mind on stuff other then what was going on with the movie.

I'm not sure why you're taking that whole thing about Jay beating off and thinking about guys so seriously. It's just a joke. A joke in a movie. Only hypersensitive people like you take that at all seriously. And I don't know what you meant by "all they did in Clerks was puzzle people." They didn't puzzle me, they were just fucking funny!

As for God being played by Alanis Morrisette, you answered your own question. Rufus says to Bethany "God isn't really a man or a woman. God isn't really anything." All that means is that it's GOD. Not a human being like you or I. Or at least when God chooses to take human form (like the body of John Doe Jersey) God can appear any way it sees fit. God just happened to appear as Alanis at the church that day. And God is both referred to as he and she in the movie, if you'd recall in the restaurant scene with everybody. ("No. SHE isn't. And we haven't been able to locate HER.). Also, Serendipity (Salma) mentions that in the strip club. Bethany: "You're saying God is a woman?" Serendipity: "Was there ever a doubt in your mind?"

You've got to watch Dogma again and this time try and pay a little bit closer attention to the dialogue. Also, don't be a jackass and take that "Jay/homoerotic" shit seriously! It's just a fucking joke. Nobody thinks Tom Hanks is gay just because he played a gay guy in "Philadelphia", right?
