¿Mystery?

I was watching the Movie "Stand By Me." They were around a campfire discussing certain issues, and the one which came up multiple times was the Goofy Mystery. What is Goofy? Is he a dog? a horse? If he's a dog, wouldn't he act like pluto who is obviously a dog, then wouldn't Goofy be the same way? Is Goofy a mentally retarded dog, or is Pluto? I'm interested in hearing some theories and/or answers. Solve my mystery.
