I'm too old, but would in a second.

: Would you then advocate shooting the infant?

Not exactly. Not in real life of course. But what I mean is in the event of an Iraqi war, the bombing of civilians would be unintentional & the result of Saddam endangering his own people on purpose.

: Because their incentive to become terrorists then increases. Assuming that preventing terrorism is your goal, feeding the world would be a damn good start.

I honestly don't think feeding other impovershed (sp?) countries would stop terrorism (or help stop it). Terrorists (like I wrote before) are against the U.S. for political (i.e. Israel) & religious (Muslims vs. Christians/Catholics) reasons. We could do no good in their eyes.

: How often is an Israeli plane hi-jacked? Do bombs EVER get on those planes? Very, very rarely.

True, but terrorists used other methods before. Either they strap bombs onto themselves (like in Israel) or maybe use trucks or other vehicles.

: You're saying that if we kill anyone who may someday become a terrorist, terrorism will cease? That's just frightening.

No, not at all. I mean by going after the people that are terrorists and who support terrorists, it will make a difference.

: : It's kind of funny that you mention that since we've never had a fullscale war to combat terrorism. As Jessie Jackson would say, "Your point is moot".

: Afghanistan?

But it's not over yet. You cannot say that this war has been ineffective if it's not even close to being done yet.

: : We didn't blow up every mountain. Our intent was to get Bin Laden AND overthrow the Taliban. We accomplished one. A man w/many connections and tons of money is not going to be that easy to find in such a country. So do you consider Afghanistan a failure since Bin Laden is not in our custody?

: I consider it a travesty against humanity.

Well it's sad that it happened, yes, but it didn't have to.

: I suggest we use any other method other than war. Heightened security is one way. Careful tracking down of specific terrorist cells and leaders, as venus mentions below, would be another.

I agree. And most, if not all, of those methods are already in place or being started. Our govt. has been tracking terrorist cells for many years now (though they should've been more proactive).

: Shit, if terrorists are so clever that they can come up with MANY NEFARIOUS POTENTIAL METHODS of wiping us out, and preventing one method WON'T STOP THEM THEY'LL COME UP WITH MORE!, how is it that our ONLY solution to preventing terrorism is randomly bombing the fuck out of various nations, such as Iraq (whom, I might add, have NEVER been proven to have ANY connection to Al Qaeda -- while Saudi Arabia, one of our longtime allies, actually does have such a connection)?

Yes, and by going after other countries that support terrorism or take away their cash flow, can we do some damage to them. I agree about Saudi Arabia helping them out, but it has been reported here & there about Iraqi officials meeting w/certain known terrorists. They deny it of course, but our evidence only consists of knowledge of these meetings. What happens in these meetings, we don't exactly know.

: Are we not as imaginative as some jackass with a bad misinterpretation of the Koran, and a pieced-together bomb?

Yes, but we don't hijack planes in the name of our religion.

: That having been said, I don't wish to argue with you. This is a time for solidarity, not tearing each other down. I've made my point as clearly as I can and I'm not going to waste energy getting angry in a fight. See ya 'round.

I agree. People either don't want a war for various reasons or do. Let's just leave it at that.
