: It's obvious that all the movies have characters that connect with each other but my question is, is the order that each movie released the order that the events in the movie occur in? In other words, does Mallrats happen the day before Chasing Amy and does Jay and Silent Bob happen before or after Chasing Amy, etc? Er - so forth. Help out the young and stupid. Thank you :]

I believe Kevin said something about how Mallrats actually took place a day or two BEFORE Clerks in continuity. It has something to do with Brandi's (Forlani) friend who died of an annurism doing laps in the pool at the Y the night before the Mallrats day, but in Clerks, Dante & Randal are going to her viewing at the funeral home (where Randal knocks over her casket) a day or two later.

Otherwise, I believe the continuity is intact, beginning with Chasing Amy. Jay & Silent Bob mention to Holden (Affleck) at the diner that they've "got to catch a bus to Chi town", which is of course Chicago, where they meet Bethany and tell her about their ill-fated attempt at finding the non-existent Shermer, IL, to become the fat blunt connection, courtesy of John Hughes. With me so far?

In J&SBSB, of course, they run into all these characters from the previous flicks, Dante, Randal, Brodie, Holden, Banky, etc, and it all has to do with the Bluntman & Chronic comic book that Holden and Banky based them on.
