I do not think Howard Stern was kidding. If you listen to Kevin Smith I do not really think he thought Howard Stern was just being funny. While I do not personally know Kevin Smith he did sound like he got kind of pissed and he did not sound like he was ok with Howard Stern's prior comments. After playing the sound byte from Jersey Girl:
Howard Stern: "Wow! Did you write that?"
Kevin Smith: "I did write that. I feel differently now. Had I written that script today I'd be like I don't get outa my car till I'm done listening to Imus(spelling!)."
Howard Stern: "Ahhhh dude! Why are you being like that?"
Kevin Smith: "You're a hurtful man who fosters poor realations between the races."

Then Howard Stern makes a turn coat and said it was well written and Kevin Smith calls him on it

Kevin Smith: "What a man of strong integrity you are. A couple minutes ago you were like "aah Kevin stinks" and now you're like "well that's some good delivery."...You got [Spied?] dude at least stick to your opinions."
Kevin knows that Stern is being an asshole and kind of calls him on it. Howard Stern was being an asshole and I'm glad Kevin called him on it. Too bad he can't take that line out of the movie that praises Howard Stern.
