I'm really sorry, Gabe.

: I just found out last night that my best friend shot himself. They found him in his room with a pistol in his hand and the song "Adam's Song" playing on his comp. with a suicide note. Turns out his girlfriend dumped him and he said he "couldn't go on." This is the first time I've experienced anything like this.. Honestly I'm so in shock, I don't know what to feel.. I spend the majority of the night/morning with his family, we were really close. His funeral will be Tuesday.. I'm sorry to post such a 'down' post.. I just thought I'd share.

I don't know what to tell you to make you feel better. I take it your friend is young, perhaps a high school kid. What's so tragic about this is that life seems so scary and harsh at that age and we've all had moments at that age that make us feel it's not worth it, but the longer you go on the more you realize that it's ALL worth it, even the hard lessons of life. But when you make a decision like this, you can't change your mind and take it back. Once you pull the trigger, it's all over.

I'm so sorry for your loss, Gabe. The closest way in which I can relate is that my best friend in high school knocked up his girlfriend at the time, and the girlfriend's mother killed herself not long after hearing this news. I think the woman had much larger issues going on than just being upset at her teenage daughter getting pregnant, but it was still extremely tough on the girl and of course my friend, as they both found her mother laying on her bedroom floor.

Hang in there, Gabe. It's going to hurt like hell for awhile, and I wish I could tell you that you'll forget all about it, but you won't. Nevertheless, maybe some good can come out of this in YOUR life. If you've got problems, tell them to a sympathetic ear. If not your family, then your friends, if not your friends then a psychiatrist or some other professional. Don't obsess with the overall prospect of the "future", just get through each day, day by day. Appreciate the little things along the way, and don't fret too much about bigger things (what career to choose, when will I get married, etc.).
