Well, I bought A Better Place based on Kevin's name being attached. Ok, maybe a bad reason for buying a movie, but as it turned out, it was a solid indie movie that I really did like quite a bit.
Then, I see that they're selling a Jason Lee movie called Drawing Flies. Some little black and white flick about bigfoot (?).... ah, what the hell, it's got Kevin's name again - so I bought it. Let me say this, I was very, very upset with Kevin for
a. Allowing his name to be used to sell said piece of shit.
b. Selling it on his site, where his fans might actually be tricked into purchasing such a piss-poor film.
c. Causing me to loose faith in him, and works that his name are attached to.
I've honestly never seen a worse movie... although, I'm yet to see Glitter.
Malcom, well it isn't his fault, really. The guy tried to make a movie. His famous friend lended his name to the project (which is purhaps the ONLY reason it got made, or has seen the light of day on DVD). He made a bad movie. Happens all the time. I just got tricked into buying this one.
Then I see that they are selling a movie about a clown that was raped by three guys.... and as a bonus, they've decided to give the much anticipated Dogma documentary. Um, yeah, I fell for this before... not again. So, I didn't buy it - all because of Drawing Flies. I almost totally forgot about it, until I was looking for something to rent this weekend.
I just wanted to thank Lynch for helping me get over my fear of VA projects that Kevin didn't do. It wasn't the best movie I've seen. I thought that it was a good idea and a decent story - and O'Halloran was excellent.
M. Night, please stay out of your own movies though. No offense, but I didn't think you pulled it off too well as the friend. I thought Mewes was just thrown in for the sake of having some more VA alums in the movie. The three rapists were excellent in the movie. I'm not sure what all the fuss was about with the rape scene. I've seen far worse that people didn't flinch at. I though that scene was handled very, very well. Just enough, not to the point that the viewer couldn't handle it.
I guess what I'm getting at is that it was a hit-and-miss... but had I bought it blindly, like A Better Place, I would not have been disapointed. Thanks for renewing my faith in all things VA... except crappy Canadian projects! ha,ha,ha...
Keep up the good work, and good luck on Scary Movie 3.
