and they last forever....the key to having the break in time reduced is to get them in the soft leather, not the harder shinier leather....with the softer leather ones there is no break in time at all......the only problem with docs is that they don't come in half sizes, which screws me up a bit....but they are the best shoe out there.....the cheapest places I've been able to find them is

Newbury Comics ( a store if you are in Mass/RI)
Bobs Stores (usualy have them cheap)
Army/Navy Stores (often tend to have coupons in the yellow pages)

But if you are heading into the city to see the movie.....go down to the village, there are plenty of cheap shoe stores that carry them down by Bleeker St/Bleeker Bobs area...tons of shoe stores
