: And to answer your question (as Vincent doesn't appear to be on), the phrase "a better place" is used in the opening minutes of the film.

That opening narration wasn't in the original script, it was added during post-production after the movie got its title.

The shooting title of A BETTER PLACE was TOTAL PEACE, which was taken from a Sebadoh song. I never intended that to be the final title, but it was a good name to put on the slates during shooting. A BETTER PLACE was suggested by Brian Lynch during editing, because that phrase DID turn up at two points in the film, both times spoken by Ryan. The title seemed to have a nice ring to it and evoked certain emotions, so I took Brian's suggestion and it becamse A BETTER PLACE.

I also named my dear, departed Norweigan Forrest cat Miller after Brian's sceenplay MILLER MINOGUE, and plan to let Brian name my children, as well.
