Take a look at it from an angle that's NOT dripping in almost-disturbing levels of knowledge about Kevin Smith and his personal life.
Makes an independant movie - it's big.
Makes a movie with a big budget - it bombs.
Makes an independant movie - it's big.
Makes a controversial movie - it does okay, people like it.
Makes a straight up comedy - pretty much everyone digs it.
The same actors in all of these (sans Clerks and O'Halloran(sp?)), same characters running throughout.
Makes a PG-13 comudrama with Jennifer Lopez.
Now from the insider angle, yeah, we all know Kevin is going in a new direction, and we all support that and, those of us who aren't 14, anticipate it.
But from the casual angle? It DOES look like he's selling out. HE doesn't give a shit if it looks like he's selling out, so why do YOU?
I personally don't give two shits if the dude does or doesn't sell out. If I were him, I'd have sold out a loooong time ago, so props to him for maintaining.
