Marvel didn't even want it in the running because it wasn't their kind of book. Lee took a huge risk writing it and putting it in the defunct Amazing Fantasy anyway.

Plus, it's not like they rewrote the origin of Spider-man.

Other than a few cosmetic changes it was the same old Spidey Origin. That means that Lee pretty much wrote the story they used and created the character.

If in a few years they make a movie with Venom, then I say Lee only gets a small percent, but since this was based on his character, and his original story...

I say pay the man.
