I know Kevin was only speculating in his JG diary entry, but if he's right then we may have a crisis on our hands!!
Lemme ask you, what is the main problem with films nowadays?(besides shitty teen flicks with pop stars in them and Cuba Gooding Jr comedies about huskies)...well? I'll tell you, CG-fuckin'-I! There's too much of it, and it doesnt look real anymore. There's nothing worse than watching an actor fuck about with an imaginary alien/monster/snow dog/mummy (delete as appropriate), it completely ruins the viewing experience. Dont get me wrong, yes, CGI can look great, when done with a subtle touch. Just look at Minority Report, it focused on the story while encompassing some fantastic CGI shots, none of which were OTT. But its films like The Mummy Returns, Attack of the clones (sorry) and fucking Snow Dogs that take the piss. And now Senior Speilbergo himself, the maestro of the moving image, might be re-releasing Jaws, with the beloved rubber beast being replaced by a smooth moving, exspensive (no doubt) shiny CGI shark. WHY???? That is the definitive summer blockbuster, the film which made me realise how damm good a flick can be.
Im all for a re-release, as im too young to have been fortunate enough to catch it first time round, and i would also fully suport a remastering, maybe even throw in some off those deleted scenes on the DVD (the one with Quinn and the little boy in the store is priceless)...but please...leave the shark alone!
