Hey Kevin and the View Askew crew!
I'm doing a college essay on the controversy surrounding Dogma and its portrayal of Catholicism. I'm in favour of Kevin Smith, believing that he intended the film to be an affectionte moralistic film that poked fun at some of the archaic traditions of Catholicism, such as the iconography etc, but never intended to ridicule Catholicism. This is my opinion but correct me if i'm wrong about his intention.
Although i have research already such as the hate letters, an interview with Kevin and the Catholic Leaue's stance ont he film, i was wondering if it would be possible if a member of the team that run the web site would be able answer some questions about the film? How did Kevin and View Askew feel about Miramax deciding to sell the film to a different distributor? Do you think the publicity gained from the furore about the film was successful in advertising the film, gaining notoriety etc.? What is your opinion about your own portrayal of the Catholic Church and do you believe that the decision to show God as a female, or to show him / her at all was a mistake as this caused more controversy? What messages did you most want to convey to the audience though the film? And finally, what do you feel the reception of the film was from the audiences?
I appreciate it if someone could help me out,
Thanks
