Are comic books silly???

My girlfriend watched 'Ghostworld' about two months ago. She liked it I was greatly disappointed. Anyway, yesterday went shopping and I was deciding wether to buy 'Preacher: Alamo' or not when she spots the TPB of the 'Ghostworld' comics. Having not read a comic in her life, she thought this would be a good place to start. So I bought it for her and she read it almost straight away. She said she hadn't realised that comics had proper stories.....she thought it was all the good guy beats the bad guy etc.

I blame certain damn popular Marvel and DC titles for this general obversation that comic books are silly. This keeps top quality titles down. Although this does give me a chance to be pretentious :-)

Any thoughts????
