: THAT dubious honor goes to the BEYOND cliche and horribly melodramatic "Saving Private Ryan". Christ, you make a movie that is effects-wise the best war film ever made, and people actually delude themselves into thinking it's a great film when it's barely even a good one. Best war films ever made? "Cross of Iron". "Das Boot". "All Quiet On The Western Front" in ANY version. The criminally under-seen "When Trumpets Fade". Hell, I'll throw in "The Longest Day". Corny, perhaps, but it whups "Ryan"'s over/underexposed ANY day.
