: Green Arrow died as a result of having his arm strapped to some big old bomb on a plane. Superman could have saved him by using his eye-lasers to remove his arm, before flying him to safety, but Green Arrow said no. Why? Maybe because he was sick of the superhero game - he'd had to kill his friend Hal Jordan (Green Lantern) when Hal went crazy, so he just wanted to end it all rather than going on as a cripple.
: Kevin brought Green Arrow back from the dead for his run with him. Well, Kevin didn't, but Hal Jordan did. I won't go into too much detail, because it'll spoil it.
: For Dark Knight Returns, Green Arrow made an appearance with just one arm, which suggests that the story takes place in an alternate universe where Superman cut off Green Arrow's arm and flew him to safety. Green Arrow appears very angry and bitter at Superman for not letting him end his life and forcing him to carry on as a cripple. He helps Batman in his fight with Superman by firing a Kryptonite arrow at Superman (using his teeth to cock the arrow, seeing as he's only got one arm). I'm not huge comics fan, but I tried to explain it as best as I could there. Comics are more confusing than anyone gives them credit for...

Well, the occasional lack of consistancy doesn't help. Not to mention alternate universes. Man I hate those. Maybe he just lost his arm in an unrelated incident, eh? Most of the old heroes (like Plastic Man, Manhunter and the rest) are in a pretty bad state in Miller's books, anyway. Oh well, I'll buy the books and read it for my own damn self. Thanks. =)
