: Man, oh man!
: It's not even as if the naysayers have any real arguement to make. This outrage smacks of mob mentality at someone who is beautiful, talented and genuinely untouchable. The fact that one might sense a twinge of racism and misogyny in the protests makes them just that much more ugly!

I think it stems more from the fact that many fans still wish to think of View Askew as an "underground" thing. It's the company that made CLERKS, and many want it to remain apart from the "mainstream." And J-Lo is probably one of the top five most "mainstream" actresses out there, in terms of pop culture exposure. So her starring in an View Askew film is perceived by many as View Askew's official move from secret clubhouse to trendy nightspot. Just like the outcry when people found out that Shannon Elizabeth, Biggs and Van Der Beek were in J&SBSB. They're lamenting the death of Kevin Smith esoterica.

It's retarded, but what're you gonna do? Apparently, these people want Kevin to continue making little black-and-white films on a microbudget instead of moving to a broader canvas and growing as a director, just so they can feel cool by being the only ones in the room who've heard of him.
