. . . Fany Bay Oysters. Sorry for the cheap attention grabber. I am of course a newbie. First post in fact. I will do my best not to piss off the resident defenders of the "cool" post, aka the nasty fuckers who mock incessantly for lack of interesting things to do.

First of all, the cheap attention grabber comes from the words printed on T-shirts sold in the Fanny Bay Inn on Vancouver Island. Perhaps you heard of it while you were in Vancouver? I would be honoured to send you one if it would ever fit into a future project.

I have never posted because of the fine line a fan walks when praising a person and kissing their ass. I will make every effort to stick to praise. These posts inspired me to write and tell you, as a genXer, who gets all the references to John Hughes flicks etc., that I think you are by far and away the best writer/director. I used to think Quentin was my fav, and I still love his movies, but the overall effect of watching your movies leaves me feeling entertained, educated, offended, and awed. Not bad for dick and fart jokes. It is the additions to the collective unconscious, or the moral message I am always trying to figure out. So far, with all of your movies I see glimpses of alternatives that should be the norm, presented as the norm, and talked about. Not just instructionally as in "thou shalt not", but casually as in "oh yeah, I didn't know that?"

Anyway, I don't think you should ever have to waste your time setting people like that straight, but I think I understand your last ditch effort to inform the individual that you are an artist and if they don't like your art they can shut the fuck up (ever so politely I might add).

Your Arena columns are generous gifts. (I know, bordering brown-nosing)

One of the guys who works with my husband is the little brother of the guy who played "Simon" on Degrassi. He told us he remembers you talking about your movies before they were made. There are alot of people out here that love your movies.

I'll stop now before crossing over to the ass kissing. I sincerely wish you the strength and courage of your convictions to keep telling stories as they come to you.

Sincerely,
Stephanie
