: : I agreaa that those aspects were well represented.. I meant the environmental aspects.. The actual explosion was great, I agree. But a nuclear bomb obviously involves radiation and that was barely touched on. There was only a passing mention of the direction of the winds and the radiation content. There were so many after-effects of the bombs we dropped on Japan. Things no one could have predicted. People who were thought to be safe from the effects of radiation were not.. and they didnt even realize they were ill until years after... Its just such a scary subject and an important one. I just felt that the whole aftermath of a nuclear bomb was under-represented.

: ... they made such a point that the one dude who had touched the inside was dying from radiation very soon after (even with the fast forwarding through time, it couldn't have been more than a year).

: I think that it was kind of making the point, though, that the immediate effect was what they had to respond to (and, in the case of Affleck, try and curtail) before they started worrying about the after-effects. After all, it's all well and good to be radiation free, but what good is it if the whole world is dead? I think the line you're talking about was the most you're going to get from a movie (and, for that matter, a situation) like that one ... all the people except for Affleck who were going in were not only wearing full protection suits, but still complaining about radiation. And, as you said, it was a small nuke.

of course, you are correct. I suppose I fear the desensitization (sp) of folks to nuclear weapons. There is still a great risk of nuclear war. And after we dropped those bombs on Japan most of the world had a wake-up call that these were the types of things we should NOT be playing with. I guess I just worry that we will forget just how far the destruction will go ( even to a cellular level).
But thank you for your insights!
