It's not a "new style" of punk either. It's radio music. Lumping it into punk is easy because it's power chords and fast tempos.

Punk is an idea. And Blink 182 doesn't convey that idea through their music.

If you want to listen to PUNK-punk, then I refuse to go into how The Ramones, The Clashes, and the Bad Religions (etc. etc. etc.) of the world pioneered it as a musical genre.

But if you mean REAL punk music TODAY with a chance of being on MTV or the radio, then you're talking about AFI, The International Noise Conspiracy, 7seconds, bands like that.

Green Day is still even somewhat punk. They at least resist being gobbled up by 16-year-olds who have no clue what punk is about -- they at least still write music that has some of the punk ideology in it.

But Blink 182, American Hi-Fi, Bodyjar, The Offspring – stuff like that is radio-wannabe-punk. It’s POP MUSIC, and they showed up twenty-five years too late to be punk.

You can like them and their music all you want, but don’t buy a chain wallet and tell me you’re a punk. Telling someone who has been into punk music for as long as you’ve been alive that Blink 182 is "punk"... well, that’s like calling an Israeli a Palestinian.
