Thanks for the lesson, andysith. Car explosions aside, I don't think that I am alone in pondering why film is so limited. Consider all the fantastic foreign films that have been made in the last few years alone. Not mention all the "masters" of old.

Not to get all Kevin Smith, but I sincerly wish more people would ante up and gather some friends, scribble some funny, grab a camera.

It'd be incredibly cool if one day we could be rooting for box office receipts between the USA and UK instead of vapid US blockbuster vs. retarded US blockbuster.

: (and scotland is in britain!)

: ok - we had a thriving film industry back in the day - then, the labour government of the 70's started imposing major taxes on income (90% at one point on earnings over a set amount - ergo, no film stars would come) - also, restrictions and taxes on the actual making of films slowed everything down

: in the 80s we had the hateful tories who were more interested in destroying everything of worth

: recently, filmfour have started throwing out some good stuff - it's depressing though that our major film releases are made by tv companies for the big screen.. tax breaks are beginning to be brought in to make it more attractive to make films over here..

: but really, our industry from the 50's etc is dead and buried - we're a respectable indie film producer now, nothing more nothing less

: also, like i said before, there's a lot of 'well i can make it but it won't be shown cos people want to watch "car chase and big explosion vii"

:
: : Okay, for one... TRAINSPOTTING? Danny Boyle... Ewan McGregor...

: : Scottish?

: : Secondly, why is it rare that anything but an American movie tops your box offices? In Japan PRINCESS MONONOKE beats TITANIC. You have the cash resources, smarts, artistic integrity, why do all european movie makers come to the states to make their movies?

: : This is not a slam, I wish there was a more diverse voice in cinema, just a question, why do only Americans place an importance on making movies? Too much money? Too much free time? I don't know the answer, I was not slighting foreign releases by asking this question, just wondering why you guys don't make (more) movies is all.

: : : but you know, you try and get them distributed when 'big explosions and car chases XI' is playing in every fucking cinema from penzance to john o groats..

: : : and the films we do make and get in the cinemas you americans complain cos

: : : a) you don't understand the title - (the madness of george III)
: : : b) you don't understand the accents - (trainspotting)

: : : we make worthy films - and so do the australians... most of our films are a million times better than the dross that comes from hollywood.

: : :
: : : : How come the USA makes all the movies? You guys (Aussies and Brits) come from highly developed nations. If I live to be 110 I will never understand why your nations don't make films. What is wrong with you guys? Retarded or something? Hong Kong has film industry!

: : : : : ...the Aussies get to see it before the Brits? That's just not right - we MADE you, damn it, and we can break you!
: : : : : Anyway, we get to see it on Saturday, so it's not so bad. And y'know what today is for me? COMICS DAY! Got a fair bit of cash from my birthday which I plan to waste on funny-books - I'm thinking the Marvel vs. DC thing and the Bluntman & Chronic figures (although feel free to make any suggestions - I refuse to even try to get into Sandman though).

: : :
: : : : :
: : : : : : 3 Hours and 45 minutes til i get to see spidey.

: : : : : : mmm spidey.

: : : : : : im so excited i wet somone elses pants. and they werent happy.
