especially when it comes to the big superhero movies like superman, batman, spider-man. because they have been around for so long they take on an iconic aspect that people gravitate to. the comic characters who resonate the most tend to attract the biggest audience while the more brand name books that play upon our pop cultural history/experience come in a close second. and of course then you have that fantastic four movie that just seemed trippily bad.
: : Your regular run of the mill action/drama/comedy just doesn't do it anymore. I mean ,please, we've seen mass destruction up close and personal. What better place to escape now than into comic books, more to the point, comic book movies. Its right time bud...we're aching for em'
: have a morality to them. There's been non-comic movies that had that - Raiders of the Lost Ark comes to mind - but it seems that the story gets lost in many action pictures.
: Because they are created over time and are experienced as one grows and changes, it is easier to include the issues of virtues & loyalties.
: My two cents. I just read on a website a librarians argument for the inclusion of more comics in libraries. He said the highbrow notion that they are trash is absurd, and he challenged any librarian with Harlequin romances or westerns to try to explain why comics were not worthy of inclusion.
