When I was traveling in Guatemala alone, and it was stopped by the military, and everyone was ordered off & searched.
Second most memorable - also Guatemala - I was on a bus that I thought would take me straight to Flores, but I had to transfer in Guatemala City at night, and the bus station was closed. I ended up sitting at a bus stop in Guatemala City at 3 a.m. and being adopted by a group of local women. (I didn't know the station was closed at night. I had to transfer busses to get to Flores.) They had me sit right in between them and we talked about culture & myth & international crimes. Way cool.
