is the person behind the mask and what drives them to do what they do.

I have always thought of the two as essentially the same character in a different plane of existence. Spawn would be the Image version of Spidey/Batman.

They are both driven to their way of life by a strong sense of responsibility and urgency to keep what happened to them from happening again.

Even when they try to quit they aren't able to. Peter Parker has overcome so much stuff, including losing his parents AGAIN and never forgets his responsibilities. Batman broke his back and was left shattered and still came back to resume his position.

Why? Because they are the only ones who do it right.

The real Batman is non-lethal, but the Batman in the movie doesn't seem to mind a little death here and there. The real Spidey is non-lethal. You don't see this in the film much, but he always captures his foes and doesn't kill them. The burglar fell from a window himself and it had nothing to do with Peter.

The difference is Burton was so obsessed with making Batman gothic, that he forgot that Batman isn't Batman, he's Bruce Wayne and the things that make Wayne tick and the reasons Wayne puts on a suit every day. Bruce Wayne was played as well as he could be, but his character was shallow.

The movie should have been called The Joker. He stole the show and he's the only one who really had personality.

I love Keaton and he was the best Batman in my mind, but they all get worse.

I'll hold my judgements for now on how the future will treat Spider-Man, but it has the fewest deviations from the original story, and that makes it much more true.

It's not Spidey's fault that the guys writing his lines don't know anything about girls.
