I think the trick is, he shouldn't have to play a superhero. He should play a blind lawyer with extra senses and quick reflexes. That's what made Spiderman work so well for me; it wasn't really a movie about a superhero doing super things. It was a movie about a kid who got stuck with all these powers, and the repercussions of them. (In short, it was a movie about Spiderman. ;)
