Anyone who laughs at a serious moment involving love has issues with maturity (or their lack of). It reminds me of 12 year old girls giggling at a love scene in a serious movie. I thought the speech was quite adequate and not cheesy in the least.
And Superman would NOT have trouble holding up a cable car. you don't know the capacity of his powers do you? The Green Goblin had an outfit plus performance enhancing drugs in his body, so how do you know what would be difficult for him to do?
