There's no automatic tie between church and violence, anymore than there is between church and God.
I heard a guy on the Daily Show (now there's a source) saying that the Catholic Church is the biggest nongovernmental provider of healthcare and education in the country.
A lot of good being done by religious folks, including the MIB.
BTW, my mother grew up across the street from the convent of the Little Sisters of the Poor. Used to be, the nuns, wearing the full habit, would rollerskate up & down her street. I love that image.
