There are lots of books on the market about screenwriting but I would only really suggest a few. For starters:
The Screenwriters Bible by Trottier. It's Fantastic as far as formatting and basic story structure go.
Also, anything by Syd Fried is fantastic. Syd Field is one of the leading Screenwriters professors in the U.S. and a little bit of research into him will tell you that he knows what he's talking about. I mean, the guy has taught more oscar winning screenwriters than anyone else.
Finally, there is book called Screenwriting From the Soul that is worth a gander. I can't remember the author's name though.
