: Linux and Apple, I was reading somewhere that Linux and Apple are in the midst of taking Linux (far better than windows) to a whole new level.

Linux isn't a company, it's an operating system... and Apple's flavor of UNIX (MacOS X) is COMPLETELY different than the Linux flavor of UNIX.

Software for one can be recompiled to run on the other pretty easily, but the actual OS is very different in nature and therefore impossible to merge.

to my eyes, Apple fulfilled the promise of Linux with MacOS X. Granted, it's not *free* so most Linux kids will never touch it, but Apple has brought UNIX to the desktop with a full range of applications that Linux users will NEVER see.

give OS X another year to mature and then add Intel/AMD support and you will have your Windows killer.

but that may be just me...
