It's about getting paid. If I like something a musical artist has put out, and seeing as putting out that music IS their job, I feel one should pay for that music. I don't care if it's one song or two. Those songs cost money, and regardless of what the artist said otherwise, they were ultimately made to make money. And if a musician can only manage one or two decent songs an album, they don't deserve my time OR money. It's that singles-driven mentality that's led the music industry to damn itself. It may bemoan online music downloads, but they brought it upon themselves by whoring out the idea of "the big single". That said, I think it's nothing but scummy to never buy a CD or to consist mostly on MP3's to fulfill one's musical appetites. And what the artists are paid is beside the point. They aren't paid for what they actually do, they're paid in accordance to the amount of money they make. You can't get away with paying someone by the hour if they make you at least 20-50 million dollars in return. The same for professional athletes; it's not about their job, it's about how much revune they draw in attendance and merchandise sales, and thusly they are paid accordingly. Sure, that doesn't balance out with most jobs in the world, but I think the entertainment and sports industries are some of the few big businesses that actually in a weird roundabout way pay people based on what they'll make for the company they work for. It's all about the bucks in the end...and cut the shit about "iliterate (Come ON, people!) bastards" like Britney Spears, N'Sync, and Destiny's Child. They sell ungodly amounts of records and make billions of dollars...and you're actually somehow believing they DON'T deserve a few million out of that? Come on, man, wake up and get with the program...
