In one of the deleted scenes Rufus asks what a garbage picker is and Jay tells him that people are making fun of him because he pulled his clothes out of the dumpster.
This is all true, however....in the movie we are led to believe that the guy he thanks at the table when they sit down was the one that gave him the clothes.......
He thanks Silent Bob when they are still on the road....
