He thanks Silent Bob for the loan of his overcoat when he sits down at the table. Rufus gets the clothes out of the dumpster at the Mooby resturant. In one of the deleted scenes Rufus asks what a garbage picker is and Jay tells him that people are making fun of him because he pulled his clothes out of the dumpster.
