Ok, it's a crock - the studios push a list without regard to who is truly deserving...but ya can't win if you don't play.
Who would you pick? I've got:
Best Actor: Denzel Washington (but it should be Tom Wilkinson)
Best Actress: Haley Barry
Best Supporting Actor: Ben Kingsley
Best Support Actress: Marisa Tomei (tough pick - Jennifer Connelly rocked)
Best Screenplay: Memento
Cinematography: A.I.
Best Director: Peter Jackson
Best picture: Lord of the Rings
WHY:
Moulin Rouge - I don't get it.
I still don't get it.
I'm really trying, but I don't...
... oh, ok. Peter Greenaway does an episode of the Monkees. Yeah, ok. That's different. But do you really have to make me listen to these guys sing? Really, I'd even prefer Peter Tork.
For environmental reasons, I can't go with anything Robert Altman does - way toooooooo long. Gosford Park would have been a great PBS miniseries. Two and a half hours and one murder - sorry, that's just inefficient.
A Beautiful Mind was a brilliant film, but I didn't think it was innovative. I still think the current rap is ridiculous - He said antisemitic things? I think he had a messiah complex... something about even the paranoid...? Please, hate the message, but don't blame the schizophrenic messenger.
If only In the Bedroom had any other ending... the biggest disappointment I had in film since I heard Silent Bob won't be back.
Any thoughts/debates/rages?
