Actually Billy Bob got overlooked twice - this and Monster's Ball.

I have never seen a performance of quiet desperation like The Man Who Wasn't There - I was stunned he was not nominated for that.

Monster's Ball was about the bravest film in terms of exploring dangerous content, and both he and Halle Barry took on some difficult roles.
I don't know if anyone could take you through the story the way they did.
