: kevin,
: stop making those vignettes or whateve the hell you wanna call
them for leno. The more i see them on his show, the more i feel as
though the whole view askew universe has sold out. Remember
when you made obscure little films that people and critics loved
(clerks, chasing amy). Now i just feel so depressed when i see you
doing a little film about peoples christmas decorations. I know
everyone needs a little extra cash and i'm sure leno gives you a fair
stack of bills so i can't blame you, i just thought you weren't like that.

: so, kevin, i still love your films and your odd style and i'll continue to
buy all the dvds but its just not the same as it once was.

Far be it from me to judge, but isn't the point of independent
filmmaking to make anything that gives one happiness? If you look
closely, one of the major gripes of many critics has been that the VA
movies have a plethora of in-jokes and intra-universe references.
But, because he was independently making movies, Kevin could
make that decision and make a movie not to the standards of the
viewing public but to his own standards. That being said, I'd find it
doubtful that, after his brush with Gramercy, he'd ever completely
compromise or sell out his vision, even for shorts, for something as
fleeting as money. Remember, we're talking about a person who
went into personal debt to make a movie about a convenience store
in New Jersey.

Basically, I don't know if producing something for general release to
a television public is selling out. If he suspended all of his movie-
writing and became a lackey of the networks, then I'd be worried, but
Jersey Girl is on the horizon, and I can't see that contributing to Leno,
who Kevin has professed a like for, is in any way a sell-out.
