Then I apply them to the script idea I might have at the time, trying not to create whole new scenarios just to stage one joke, of course. I usually put on some classical music or instrumental techno - something that'll keep your mind awake, but won't distract you. I won't watch TV and I'll usually have one cup of tea right before I start (because I know if I drink it while writing, I'll just want to take a break to get another cup as soon as I finish).
