If memory serves me, I think K.Smith talks about this distinction in that book, how he is a movie fanboy, not just a film fan....
I see what you are saying, I used to agree...it is a matter of expectation..
I may go see Godzilla 2000 and enjoy it for what it is, or a jackie Chan movie....
But if I go see Remains of the Day, which I enjoy on a diffrent level, I have a different set of expectations for it...
Its all about genre and expectation...
Take VA films for example, I would rate
Clerks=film
Mallrats=movie
Chasing amy=film
Dogma=film
JASBSB=movie
BHD=movie
Vulgar=film
that was under my old system, not sure if I am still making a distiction between movie and film....
