Did any of you guys ever watch Crazy / Beautiful?
I raise the issue because...
1) I watched the dvd last night,
2) its a style of film / story-telling that's rather different from Kevin's stuff, and
3)Though I see Kevin commenting on films ranging from cartoons (like Monsters Inc.) to war/action films (e.g. Black Hawk) - I rarely spot Kevin taking note of the darker and more emotionally charged films around.
I must say straight away that, though the film stars Kirsten Dunst - it most certainly is NOT one of those teen-movies..... and if it were a teen movie, its a pretty damn fucked up one!!
Does it require a certain fucked up person with an emotionally trashed history to relate to the darker and heavier side of what cinema is capable of protraying, or can happy light-hearted people such as your goodselves nonetheless delve into fathoms of those pits.
I find viewaskew films highly enjoyable myself, and I often look towards them from an almost escapist perspective - a mini-universe of discoveries, little escentricities and idiosyncracies.... Kevin often looks into and analyses many of the overlooked and easily accepted notions and concepts in life - but the investigation is often a happy though enlightening one, that rarely delves into the dysfunctional aspects of life.....
On the other hand, it is possible to view flicks as simply a mode of entertainment - we live in a world of sufficient sickness in reality, that one does not need to wallow in further shit by deliberately choosing to make / create / watch something that pushes those buttons.
