There I am, casually leafing through my newest copy of Entertainment Weekly, when I get to the page about the births, deaths, marriages, etc. And, there it is, under recent deaths ... ACTOR, KEVIN SMITH.
Now, immediately, my heart skips a beat and then, when my sense of control returns, I keep reading to find it's NOT this Kevin Smith but some other Kevin Smith who apparently was on "Xena, Warrior Princess". I've never heard of this guy, which isn't to say he wasn't a prominent actor. And condolences go out to his family, of course. But I did breathe a tiny sigh of relief to realize that the other Kevin Smith is, thank God, alive and well. Then, it also occurred to me that, had this Kevin really passed away, the label would've read DIRECTOR, KEVIN SMITH. But that's all irrelevant now.
Kevin, thanks for not being dead. And be careful, for God's sake, would you? Although it's unlikely that God would pick off two guys named Kevin Smith at the same time. So it looks like you're in the clear ... for now anyway.
