It's just a little thing actors call "acting". They make fun of him for "being gay" in the drunken commentary.

The music from the walkman sets the mood of the scene, and when it suddenly gets clicked off after Ryan settled down, it snaps him out of the previous mood, allowing him to finish what he started.
