I think we're being a little harsh.

A brother, as he once said, has got to keep the lights on, you know. I don't think that we can really blame Ben for some of the choices he's made; we don't know all of the circumstances surrounding his life and the decisions in which he's made.

Perhaps he has perfectly logical reasons for each "payday" he's supposedly taken. Perhaps he signed onto a good script which was butchered in the editing/re-write process, and he stayed out of loyalty to those making the film, and the integrity of signing one's name? Perhaps he had monetary problems we didn't know about? Perhaps he found something in the film that -he- enjoyed; not all art is necessarily for the audience.

Or, perhaps he just saw an opportunity to roll around naked with Charlize Theron and took it. Can you -blame- the guy?

But, really, the point here is that we don't know Ben, and we don't know why he made the decisions that he did. It's easy for us to armchair quarterback his career and imagine how easily life as a moviestar must be, but that doesn't mean that we necessarily know anything. I know I don't.

Regards,

Kevin
agrees, though, that Ben does fine, fine work, and I -loved- him in Boiler Room. His cadence on the phrase "completely liquid" gets me every time. "Anybody who tells you money is the root of all evil doesn't fucking have any." God, his smarm... it's almost deliciously evil in that movie.
