I absolutely love what Minghella did with the book, and find it vastly superior to Purple Noon, but I really don't think he would be right for the other books. They have a completely different tone than the first one. And I like how his ending to Ripley really kills the possibility of more films. For me, after the movie, Ripley doesn't go the way he did in the books.
But yes, I would like to see other Ripley films. I have a copy of American Friend, Dennis Hopper did a decent job as Ripley. And I'm looking forward to what Malkovich does with part.
And what ever happened to that adaptation of Ripley Under Ground which was going to be called Maythem? Any ideas?
