The flu bug bit me on the ass, so I stayed home from work yesterday to catch up on my sleep. I ended up watching 'Chasing Amy' and 'Dogma' instead. Not a bad way to spend the day.
But today I'm at work (so to speak, since I'm not really working at the moment), delving into the ViewAskewniverse, and day-dreaming about writing a screenplay of my own, and generally just trying to ignore everyone around me.
I'm surrounded by crumpled tissues and dead tea-bags (hot tea and lemon is the cure for all ills, my mom always said – even though she also relied on the hot tea and whiskey combo, which I would go for except I still need my day job), my eyes are heavy, and my head is filled to the brim with snot. I'm sure I look just as bad as I feel.
I don’t work at a convenience store, so I don't have to contend with dimwit questions from the moronic general population. I also don't have to pretend to be nice all the time, which is a good thing because a woman walking past my cubicle on her way to the coffee pot stopped and said, and I quote, "Hey, I really like your lemon thing," referring to the lemon concentrate I've been pouring into my cups of hot tea all morning.
What can you possibly say to that?
Anyway, congratulations on following your dream, Kevin. It took me awhile to warm up to your work (ok, I was just plain jealous that someone, younger than me no less, "made it" with a black and white, low-budget flick like 'Clerks.' After some years of growing up, I gave 'Clerks' another try, and now I wish more filmmakers would try to make it with more black and white, low-budget flicks like 'Clerks.'
Maybe someday I'll quit whining about my sucky job and go for it, like you did. Thank you for making honest films and for staying true to yourself. I can't wait to see your next flick.
